The 4820 is an innovative
controller designed to power four or eight 28-volt 4528 Hi-g PAR-46
light fixtures from 120VAC power. The result is very high
illumination for high-speed film and video applications, and it's
ideally suited for Hi-g applications and explosive over pressure
environments.
Unlike traditional AC light sources, total power
consumption is low, as one 20-amp. 120VAC circuit powers four
450-watt 28-volt 4528 lamps connected in series. The 4820 has two
solid-state controller channels, each controlling 4-lamps. That's a
total of more than two million candlepower, with SPOT lamps,
calculated to 50% of center beam intensity with a total power
consumption of 32 amps!
The 4840 model accepts 230/240VAC power and
handles eight 4528 lights from a single controller circuit. Total
power consumption is 16 amps at the same illumination level stated
above.
Each 4800 series controller has a low voltage
dimmer circuit with linear ramp up from 0 to full AC lamp
voltage. The dimmer eliminates the initial 80-amp current
surge when instant full power is applied.
A recent upgrade
incorporates a control circuit that allows users to trigger 4820 and
4840 controllers from a remote location or a sequencer to instantly
ramp up the lights to full brightness. The circuit accepts a
continuous 5 to 10 volt DC lever or a continuous contact closure.
Remote control is useful in hazardous or explosive environments,
test cells, vacuum chambers and related situations where personnel
safety is an issue.

There are several benefits when using dimmer
control, including extended lamp life. When greater illumination
levels are required 4800 series controllers also power 28-volt
PAR-64 Hi-g 600-watt lamps that doubles the 4528's beam candle power
output.
4800 series controllers combined with eight 4528
light fixtures result in a small and lightweight system. It produces
exceptionally high illumination levels with low power consumption at
a very modest cost.
