Description

These LED ring lights are designed for use with a center mounted video camera as illustrated in the above photo.  Their purpose is to provide high-intensity illumination required by the cameras to capture images of fast moving events for detailed troubleshooting and problem analysis.

Production & assembly lines are typical application where cameras are needed to observe intricate parts and components in automated and fast moving production environments, A ring light produces shadow-free lighting that improves the cameras' ability to capture detailed images of small or minute components on fast moving conveyers.  Conventional 90° lighting will cast shadows that can obscure Important details during analysis.

Another key LED benefit is virtually NO HEAT in the light beam. Conventional Tungsten-Halogen lighting can easily raise ambient temperatures by 50°F or more and can induce problems with automated assembly equipment and/or damage heat sensitive sensors and transducers.

High temperature produced by incandescent lights, when installed in close-up scenarios, can also become a safety issue in factories that produce flammable products such as; liquids, tissues, diapers, fabrics, paper etc.

Unlike broadband Tungsten-Halogen lights, high intensity LED's produce virtually no IR or UV radiation.  In addition their frequency response within the visible spectrum is very narrow, for example; red LED's have a nominal frequency of 627nm and are ideal for monochrome cameras.

CCD and CMOS image sensors are highly red sensitive and this means less light is needed or higher lens f/number for greater image depth-of-field.  White LED's produce a nominal daylight color temperature of 6,000° Kelvin.

 

 

 

Strobeoscopic Mode

These same LED arrays, without modification, can be used in both continuous flood light and in stroboscopic modes up to 5000 Hz,

In strobe mode a shutter pulse signal, produced by most digital video cameras, is connected to a LED strobe controller.  This pulse occurs simultaneously with the cameras image capture interval and triggers the LEDs to automatically flash once per image-frame at selectable pulse durations.

This short pulse of light freezes object motion to assure absolute blur free images for frame-by-frame analysis, Pulse durations are adjustable in seven (7) selections from: 5 to 500 microseconds per flash.

These LED arrays, in strobe mode, can operate continuously and unattended in a 24 hour cycle, for production line and related activities, They are also ideal for interactive Machine Vision applications.
